Okay, okay…
You might be wondering what a Toniebox is — or if you already know, you’re probably asking the big question: “Is it actually worth it?”
If that’s you, you’re in the right place. I’m breaking down the pros, cons, and my real-life experience with the Toniebox so you can decide if it’s a good fit for your family.
Why trust me?
I have two chaotic boys, and as a family that actively tries to reduce screen time, we decided to give the Toniebox a try. Spoiler alert: it was such a hit that we ended up buying two. That alone should tell you something.
What Is the Toniebox?
One of my favorite things about it is how simple and intuitive it is. It’s designed so little ones can use it on their own without constant help from a parent (which is a huge win in my book).
The Toniebox works by placing Tonie characters on top of the box. Each character plays either stories, songs, or educational content. There are tons of familiar favorites, including Disney and Pixar characters, Tonie Originals, and Clever Tonies.
Tonie characters are sold separately and typically cost around $20 each, though you can sometimes snag them on sale or in bundles — which I definitely recommend keeping an eye out for.

Toniebox vs. Toniebox 2
Tonie recently released the Toniebox 2, which includes a new feature called Tonie Play. This feature offers screen-free interactive games, quizzes, and challenges — all audio-based.
Tonie Play is exclusive to the Toniebox 2, but honestly, aside from that, there aren’t many major differences between the original Toniebox and the newer version. If interactive play is important to you, Toniebox 2 might be worth it — otherwise, the original still works beautifully.
Why I Love the Toniebox
I’m a big believer in anything that helps reduce screen time — especially if it actually keeps my kids engaged. And let’s be real: we’ve all had those moments where turning on a cartoon feels like the only way to get dishes done or fold laundry in peace. No judgment here.
The Toniebox has been a game-changer for us.
My kids can:
-
Swap out Tonie characters on their own
-
Adjust the volume independently
-
Listen to stories and music without staring at a screen
Even better, the maximum volume isn’t overly loud, and you can control volume limits and other settings through the Tonies app — which gives me peace of mind.
Instead of zoning out in front of a TV, my kids are listening, imagining, and playing, and I can actually get things done without feeling guilty.
Is the Toniebox Worth It?
For our family? Absolutely yes.
If you’re looking for a screen-free option that your kids will genuinely love — and actually use — the Toniebox is worth every penny.
